How Tradies Can Get More Leads From Their Website

Having a website isn't enough on its own. Here's how to turn your tradie website into a genuine lead generator without spending a fortune on ads.

A lot of tradies build a website, put it online, and then wonder why the phone isn't ringing. Having a website and having a website that generates leads are two different things.

The gap usually comes down to a few things that are fixable without spending much money.

Start With Local SEO

Local SEO is how your website gets found when someone in your area searches for your trade. If you're a plumber in your area and someone types "plumber near me" into Google, you want to show up.

The basics aren't complicated:

Use your trade and your location throughout your website, in headings, in your page title, and in the natural text of your pages. Not so much that it reads like a robot wrote it. Just enough that Google understands who you are and where you work.

Create or claim your Google Business Profile and make sure the name, address, and phone number listed there exactly match what's on your website. This consistency matters to Google and it matters to customers.

Get listed in a few reputable Australian business directories: Yellow Pages, True Local, Hipages (even if you don't pay for leads there, a free listing helps). These links back to your website tell Google you're a real, established business.

Make It Easy to Contact You

Every time a visitor has to hunt for your phone number, you lose some of them. Your contact details should be visible without scrolling, on every page.

If you want to take enquiries through a form, keep it short. Name, phone number, and a short description of the job. The more fields you add, the fewer people fill it out.

On mobile, your phone number should be a click-to-call link. The number of tradie websites that still don't do this in 2026 is surprising. One tap to call is the standard now.

Use Real Photos of Finished Jobs

A gallery of completed work is one of the most powerful trust signals on a tradie website. People want to know what standard to expect before they commit to a call.

Take photos on your phone at the end of jobs you're proud of. Before and after shots are even better. Update your gallery every few months with fresh work.

This also gives you something to post on social media and link back to your website, which is good for both trust and search visibility.

Get and Display Customer Reviews

Ask every satisfied customer to leave a Google review. Most people are happy to do it if you ask directly and give them the link.

Once you have a few solid reviews, add some of them to your website. You don't need a fancy system. A few real quotes with names on them, sitting near your contact form, do a real job.

Reviews are one of the main things customers look for before they call a tradie they haven't used before. Make it easy for them to find yours.

Write About the Work You Do

A blog or resources section on your website gives Google more content to index and more chances to show your site in search results. You don't need to publish every week. A few genuinely useful articles about common jobs in your trade, targeted at customers in your area, can compound over time.

Articles like "How to know if your hot water system needs replacing" or "What to expect during a bathroom renovation" answer questions people are actually searching for. If your article answers the question and links to your contact page, some of those readers become customers.

Don't Send People Away

If you link your Instagram or Facebook from your website, you're sending hard-won visitors off your site and onto a platform designed to keep them scrolling.

If you're going to link to social media, open it in a new tab, or better yet, keep social links in the footer rather than on the homepage where they compete with your call-to-action.

The goal of every page on your website is to get someone to contact you. Keep that front of mind when you're deciding what to put where.
